Learning to Play the Fulham Way!

16th October 20

Every Tuesday and Thursday, some of our year 1s and 2s have been taking part in the Fulham FC Foundation’s inclusive and fun after-school club. The focus of this club is to introduce and develop the girls’ skills and knowledge of football with a new topic each week.

The club is structured around the Fulham FC coaching methodology: Play – Part – Play. The coaches work on developing a skill each week in the ‘Part’ section, and then introduce that into a game (the ‘Play’ situation). This way there is a great balance between learning, inclusion and enjoyment.

Let’s meet the coaches…

Coach Pedro

Why did you become a football coach?
To make a difference and have an impact on the lives of children through football.

If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?
Great White Shark – because they are not the biggest animal in the sea, but they are the best and most impressive!

What is your favourite inspirational quote?
‘If you train badly, you will play badly. If you work like a beast in training, you will play the same way.’ – Pep Guardiola (Manchester City Manager)

Who is your favourite footballer?
Rui Costa – He’s a home-grown hero of mine from the country I was born it, Portugal!

Coach Connor

Why did you become a football coach?
I became a football coach because I love football so much. I’ve loved it since I was a kid and being able to pass on my knowledge and experience is a fantastic feeling.

If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?
I have never thought about it… I would probably be a dolphin. They are really intelligent animals and they rely on communication with each other to help them through darker waters.

What is your favourite inspirational quote?
“The thing about football – the important thing about football – is that it is not just about football.” – Sir Terry Pratchett (Author)

Who is your favourite footballer?
Cristiano Ronaldo – just a fantastic player with a great work ethic. Always has the determination to do more and be better.
