Year 5 Pentecost Service

5th June 19

This week Y5P led us in a beautiful and uplifting service to celebrate the birthday of the Church at Pentecost, when Jesus sent his Holy Spirit to the disciples. We celebrate this great day when the friends of Jesus found that they could do the things that He had done; the day that they understood the things that before they found too difficult to even think about. The day when they suddenly had courage, where before their knees turned to jelly at the very thought of danger or difficulty.

The girls re-enacted the story of how the disciples gathered in a room when they were sent the gift of the Holy Spirit, who appeared above their heads in tongues of fire. Y5P helped us to remember that just as the Holy Spirit helped the disciples to go out and spread God’s word, it can also help us in our daily lives and give us the courage and wisdom to follow Jesus’ path. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit brought peace and unity by giving the apostles the ability to speak different languages, enabling communication with all. We too must try to do our best and go forth and spread God’s message in our own lives.

Breathe into me Holy Spirit
So that my mind may turn to what is holy.
Move me, Holy Spirit,
So that I may do what is holy.
Guide me Holy Spirit,
So that I may love what is holy.
Strengthen me Holy Spirit
So that I may preserve what is Holy.
Protect me Holy Spirit,
So that I may never lose what is holy.
