Sunday Times Prep School of the Year 2013-14

Year 6 Art Lesson

We looked briefly at different artists’ approaches to showing movement in their work and then we attempted a series of life drawings. Mrs Earl chose a ‘model’ to perform an action, for example hula hooping or scoring a goal in hockey or netball – a big “thank you” to Mrs Andrew for the props we borrowed!! The girls then had to translate the action they saw onto paper.

The girls were encouraged to draw BIG and often abandoned working at the tables in favour of working on the floor! They all enjoyed using a range of media and found it took an increasing amount of energy and vigour to get their drawings looking active and energetic and full of movement! The girls left the lesson quite exhausted as if a work-out had taken place, but with some super pieces. Well done girls!
