Sunday Times Prep School of the Year 2013-14

Happy Diwali

The school would like to extend warm wishes to all our families celebrating Diwali, the Hindu 'Festival of Lights' this week. Diwali is the most important festival on the Hindu calendar and recognised the world over by many communities in various countries.

Our girls in both Reception classes have been learning about the festival and a little of the Hindu culture as we are mindful of being a Catholic school but embracing other faiths. The girls have produced the most beautiful, coloured, sparkly Rangoli designs and will light a tea-light in their clay lamps they have made. The Rangoli designs have been created to welcome the deity Lakshmi and bring good luck. They are a traditional form of decoration and often found on floors and walls by the entrance to a house or temple. The girls' work has certainly brightened up the corridor by their classrooms and is a joy to behold on a dull, rainy grey November morning.

In their ICT lessons the Reception girls have been putting their growing computer and mouse skills to the test and producing beautiful digital art work to represent the fireworks so abundant at this time of year.
