Sunday Times Prep School of the Year 2013-14

Farewell...then lunch!

A busy, last full day of term saw us say a fond farewell to Mr Orkney in Assembly time – sending him off with a ‘flash mob’ dance, along with lots of funny memories of how much he has always been fully involved in school life. His last seven years here have not been spent simply cooking our delicious lunches each day, but out of the kitchen, he has always been the first one to dress up, fundraise and do everything for a good cause and for the enjoyment of our girls; he will be sorely missed. However, he had scant little time to look back and feel all nostalgic and teary eyed, as it was our highly anticipated Christmas lunch from midday!

Following 8 hours prep in the kitchen on Sunday with Mrs Bouffe, the spuds were roasted to perfection, the pigs wrapped tightly in their blankets and the turkey and stuffing, golden and juicy. The kitchen team of course adhered to all the usual dietary requirements needed by our girls and everyone was served a truly tasty Christmas lunch. Crackers were pulled, crowns worn and silly jokes told as much festive fun and merriment was had by all, from Reception to Year 6. The girls’ eyes nearly popped out of their heads when they saw the treats on offer after the main course; there were cookies iced as Christmas puddings, shortbread biscuit trees, marshmallow snowmen, mini muffins and cupcakes galore – a real feast. And as if by magic…it even started to snow whilst we were enjoying our lunch!
