Eat a Rainbow!

Girls and staff alike were sat to attention and paying heed at Monday morning’s Assembly as we had a very interesting guest speaker in the Hall; a nutrionist working for our catering company Holyrode Howe. Georgia gave an informative and enlightening presentation which kept us all questioning in our heads various aspects regarding our diet, food intake, levels of activity and eating habits. It was very encouraging to see many of our girls’ hands shoot up in response to key questions about why it is important to maintain a healthy, balanced diet, which foods are particuarly beneficial and how much to eat from each food group and why. Georgia concluded by stressing that we should be willing to try new foods when they are offered at lunchtime and try to ensure we ‘eat a rainbow’; the more varied and interesting and colourful the food on our plate the better it will be for us! …but we all knew she was not talking about a multi-coloured packet of ‘Smarties’ or ‘Skittles’ sweeties!
