Sunday Times Prep School of the Year 2013-14

Ho, Ho, Holy Cross!

It is indeed the most wonderful time of the year in school right now with the Infant Christmas plays on the calendar later this week and the fabulously festive Christmas Fair which took place at the weekend!

The FOHC put so much effort in behind the scenes to really transform the Hall and grounds into a magical environment where the air was thick with the sweet smell of candy floss and cinnamon and tinsel, lights and baubles projected a sparkly twinkle over the proceedings. There was an enormous range of tempting stalls selling all manner of goodies from locally produced beer to books, bows, bangles and bits and bobs. There were a lot of smiling parents as gift lists grew shorter and presents were ticked off. The Fair opened with the delightful sound of the choir guided by Mrs Neale who got the early morning crowd woken up and singing along. This year we also watched a presentation of hiphop and ballet by two year groups participating in the after school ballet lessons which run weekly throughout the term. The Hog Roast, hot waffles and mulled wine stands were continually swamped as the below-zero temperatures made many seek out some warming refreshments. The sudden cold snap did add an air of authenticity to the day which no one seemed to mind apart from the long-time standing security team and facilities staff on the drive who were out directing the setup up from early on, parking and final exits. A huge 'Thank You' to all involved - parents, staff, girls, FOHC members - without whom this much loved event would not simply happen.
