Cross Country

The PE Department ensures no dust ever settles on them as no sooner are tournaments played and results in, and it is time to move on for the next fixture! It was the turn of our Junior cross country runners the other afternoon as we learn the details below.

"On Friday 13th November 20 keen cross country girls from Years 3 to 6 were kitted out, warmed up and ready to run in the annual Hall School Cross Country event on Wimbledon Common. The sun did shine at times, however a down pour and strong winds did not deter the girls in any respect. For the selected girls in Year 3 they were especially excited, as it was their first competition against other schools in an event.

When we arrived on the Common, all 20 girls walked the course to become familiar with where they needed to change their pace, look out for any features on the ground and help gain a good position. The Year 4 team were the first to take their marks which enabled our younger Year 3s to see how the relay was run. With the moto of, ‘Think smart, run smart’ the Year 4 girls positioned themselves well in the race, with the final runner coming in a fantastic 2nd place out of 13 schools! The Year 3s then had their opportunity and stayed well within the top 5 during the whole race, eventually over taking to finish in 4th. The Year 5 and 6 teams ran with great effort showing some strong pacing; they were not our usual runners as we fielded a mixed A and B squad due to some of them being away at the IAPS hockey national finals. Sport at Holy Cross certainly keeps our girls very busy. Well done to all the girls who competed and ran so well".
