Fun in the Sun at Sports Day

24th June 21

It’s Sports Day here at Holy Cross Prep – always a special occasion – and what glorious weather we have enjoyed!

Throughout the day, the girls competed across our four school houses: St Dominic, St Elizabeth, St Francis, and St Teresa. St Dominic House was crowned the overall winner, following an action-packed day of activities.

Our junior teams kicked things off this morning with an array of fun-filled challenges, from the tricky obstacle course to the bouncy space hopper relay! Then, during the afternoon, our pre-prep classes took to the sports field to hop, hurdle and sprint their way to the finish line.

The girls have clearly worked very hard during their PE lessons this year. Well done everyone who took part – you all did a fantastic job! A special thank you to our dedicated PE staff for planning such a fun and varied day of events.

Sports Day has also inspired us to think about the fuel we put in our bodies. It’s important to eat a healthy balanced diet, including protein, carbohydrates and plenty of fruit and veg. Our special Sports Day picnic lunch was packed full of athlete-friendly goodness:

  • We had water to keep us hydrated – this is always important, but especially during sports as we lose fluids when we sweat.
  • Our bread rolls provided carbohydrates, perfect for slow-release energy throughout the day. The filling (ham, tuna or cheese) gave us protein to keep body tissue, muscles and cells healthy.
  • We also had fruit and veggie crudités – these have high water content for extra hydration, plus additional minerals and vitamins.
  • Finally, we had small choc biscuit bar – very useful for replenishing sugar levels and boosting energy after exertion.

A big thank you to the Holroyd Howe catering team for providing us with such nutritional and tasty meals!
