Year 4 Trip to The Wimbledon Synagogue

16th January 19

On Tuesday 15th January, Year 4 pupils visited the Wimbledon and District Synagogue.

On arrival, the girls gathered around the entrance of the synagogue where they discussed the features of the building and its uses. They were then taken into the main hall where they learned all about the features inside the synagogue and how they are linked to the scripture in the Torah.

The girls learned how Jewish people pray in a community setting and were shown ‘The Five Books of Moses’, which make up the Torah. In groups, the girls gained further insight about the Torah scrolls, before learning how Jewish families celebrate Shabbat (Judaism’s day of rest). At the end of their session, the girls were offered grape juice and challah bread, to show how the Jewish celebrate Shabbat each week.

The Year 4 girls thoroughly enjoyed their visit, and learned a lot about the Jewish faith.
