PE

Apart from developing physical skills and fitness, a variety of sporting activities give children the opportunity to develop both team and individual skills.

A specialist teacher teaches physical education throughout the school. All infant pupils have two P.E. lessons each week and juniors have the equivalent of three, including games afternoons for year 5 and 6 in which girls are given specialised lessons in different sports.

Lunchtime sports skills clubs are offered to all Y2 – 6 girls. Pupils are encouraged to make full use of the extensive grounds and sports facilities during breaks.

The facilities within the school include two netball and tennis courts, a sports field and a brand new gymnasium. Swimming is taught in Year 2 at a local leisure centre. A balanced P.E. programme develops the skills to play netball, rounders, hockey and tennis. Athletics, gymnastics, dance and swimming are also important parts of the curriculum.

The school is renowned for netball and rounders success.   Matches are played against local schools and the teams also compete in tournaments, including the I.A.P.S. netball and rounders tournaments. The Year 6A and 5A teams have been very successful over the past few years in a number of tournaments with a ranking of second in U11 Netball England in 2007. In small school netball tournaments for 2008 we finished:
  • Year 6 – 1st place
  • Year 5 – 1st equal and second on points differentiation
  • Year 4 - 1st equal and second on points differentiation
The girls’ rounders team also finished second at the very competitive Woldingham Tournament last year. We encourage all girls to play sport no matter what their skill level. We recently fielded five teams at year 6 against Putney High giving all girls who wanted to play the opportunity. No other girls’ preparatory school in this area caters to all skill levels. We also have a very successful athletics team and cross country team with consistently high rankings at interschool meetings.

All junior pupils participate in the interhouse sports competitions, encouraging skill development, teamwork, fair play and a competitive spirit.   Sports days take place in the summer term. Parents are welcome at all fixtures and events, home and away.

Extra-curricular sports clubs include netball, hockey, football, tennis, rounders, judo, ballet, dance and hula hoop. The wide range of extra-curricular clubs maximise contact time between pupils and staff and provide the girls with opportunities to develop their skills and performance.A Mums' netball team has recently been formed and we look forward to watching them compete with their daughters!
