DT

Design Technology is taught from Foundation Stage and throughout both key stages. Each year group is timetabled for two blocked days each term.

This lesson is held in the specialist DT room with the children, year group teacher, classroom assistant and / or teaching assistant with the infants. Additional work is completed in the year group classroom or sent home, should parent support be required.

A wide range of materials and techniques are used. The DFES schemes of work are implemented and adapted to meet teacher and pupils’ needs. Selective changes are made by teaching staff to make learning more relevant, motivating and enjoyable for their children.

Cross-curricular links help children to make connections between subjects and transfer their learning from one subject to another. These skills are an essential part of successful curriculum planning.

The children are visited by specialists and are taken on outings to increase their understanding and experiences. Junior children also have the opportunity to participate in the after school DT club, where they mix with girls from different classes.

At Holy Cross we aim to provide the girls with activities designed to meet their individual needs and develop a love of the subject.
