Admissions

Holy Cross Prep School provides a Christian education to children of all denominations and faiths with priority being given to Catholic families and siblings. Children start in our Reception classes in the academic year that they turn five, i.e. four years of age before the 1st of September.

The admissions policy for the school is that all children will be registered on a waiting list and then be given the opportunity to be selected for entry by attending an introductory session.

  • Children for the Reception intake will be invited into school in November in the year prior to the September when they are eligible to start. Parents are notified of the outcome within two weeks.

The introductory session, which lasts about an hour, enables the school to implement a sympathetic, sensitive and structured admission procedure. All parents will be either offered a place for their child or their name will be placed on a waiting list in the event that a place becomes available at a later date.

The screening procedure also ensures that children accepted into the school are suitable for the academic environment we offer and will progress happily and productively.

BURSARIES

One of the Trustees’ main objectives is to make a Holy Cross Prep school education financially available to as many as possible. However there are still some parents whose income prevents them considering Holy Cross Prep for their children and for those situations the Trustees and the Advisory Body make further provision through the offer of a bursary.

A bursary is a discount on fees awarded after parents have made a confidential application giving family financial circumstances. It is a policy of Holy Cross Prep School that all financial assistance for pupils should be means-tested; consequently awards are restricted to bursaries and there are currently no scholarships.

Selection is based principally on a prospective pupil’s academic potential and the contribution to fees which parents can make. We ask parents to say what they can afford and this is considered in both absolute terms and relative to their declared financial circumstances. Parents of very able children should not be discouraged from applying even if their potential fee contribution is low.

Once a Bursary is given, this is generally held throughout the School, subject to parents’ financial circumstances remaining unchanged, their timely payment of fees and to satisfactory academic performance and conduct on the part of the pupil.

HARDSHIP

For pupils already at the School at any stage of their education, Bursaries may be awarded in the case of unforeseen hardship. Bursaries are considered in February each year and generally run from the start of the following academic year. Those wishing to apply should contact the Headteacher before the end of January.
