Sunday Times Prep School of the Year 2013-14

The aim of drama at Holy Cross is to develop self-confidence, self-esteem and freedom of expression; all pupils have the opportunity to realise their dramatic potential.

Drama is an integral, and enjoyable part of the curriculum and the pupils have weekly drama lessons with a specialist teacher. From Reception they take part in a range of activities where they learn different drama skills and techniques.

The drama curriculum reflects and enriches English, History and Geography topics in class for example storytelling, traditional tales, ‘The Great Fire of London’, masks and evacuees.

Pupils in years 2 - 6 have the opportunity to take LAMDA examinations; those in years 2 & 3 also work towards a choral speaking examination during lesson time.  There is a weekly, optional drama club for pupils in years 4, 5 & 6.

Throughout the year pupils visit local theatre to experience live performance and each Christmas there is a whole school outing. Visiting workshops come into school and the children get the opportunity to work with experienced actors and perform in front of an audience.

There are many opportunities for pupils to perform to an audience during the school year and pupils take part with energy and enthusiasm in school productions.  All girls participate in a Christmas play.
