Sunday Times Prep School of the Year 2013-14

At Holy Cross the girls’ education extends far beyond the classroom walls; a central part of our ethos is that pupils should be engaged with the real world and have an understanding of, and make a positive contribution towards, society. We undertake charity work, in terms of time and funds, at local, national and international level.

The school selects a main charity to support each year; currently the Princess Alice Hospice, Esher chosen by democratic vote by all pupils.

Fashion shows, bake sales, sponsored reads, rambles and bounces are eagerly anticipated events on the school calendar where the emphasis is on putting the ‘fun’ back into fundraising.

We have previously supported Save the Children, Get Kids Going, Build Africa, Mary’s Meals, Save the Rhino and the NSPCC whose visiting speakers have inspired our girls and made the causes very real and close to our hearts.

Our parent association, the Friends of Holy Cross – FOHC - also selects a charity every three years to donate 10% of its funds to during this period. Their current charitable concern is Calcutta Rescue, which is a non-governmental organisation founded in the UK but based in India providing medical, educational and support services to disadvantaged people in West Bengal.

Hugely successful, large scale, school-based events such as the annual Christmas Fair, biannual Ball or Summer Festival raise an incredible sum from our generous and very supportive parents. The girls look forward to ‘Dads and Daughters Camping’, a whole school disco and an Infant Movie Night amongst other events throughout the year.
