Nick Handel began by telling us all about his career as a producer for the BBC. He produced many popular shows, such as 'Children in Need' and 'That's Life!'
He showed us lots of little video clips to explain what makes a good film more interesting, for example, camera angles, close ups and facial expression. One clip from Jurassic Park showing a dinosaur in a cage was a particularly dramatic scene.
After that he showed us how to use the way a film functions to help us with our creative writing, like making every chapter like a scene in a film, describing the camera angles. He also told us that when we describe a character, only to give the basic details you need to know and to add little bits of description later on.
This then led on to him telling us about his recent book 'Newskids on the Net'. It is about some teenagers who have a show on the internet and then start solving lots of different mysteries. We have bought the book as it looks really exciting.
