Sunday Times Prep School of the Year 2013-14

Class Y3P presented a fabulously colourful re-enactment of the Pentecost celebration in our whole school Assembly and shared the joy of the occasion with us. The Pentecost is when the Holy Spirit descended to Jesus’ disciples and enabled them to ‘speak in tongues’ and spread the Good News.

The vibrancy of the story was seen in the girls’ enthusiastic acting, joyful singing and even in two video clips that tried to demonstrate some science behind the idea of, “being filled with the Holy Spirit”! Understanding the concept of the Holy Spirit and its presence in us on Earth, once Jesus had ascended to Heaven to be with God the Father, is a difficult one to grasp at any age, but class Y3P went to great lengths to try and make this easier for us and to explain it in simple terms. To be filled with the Holy Spirit is to find grace, love, joy, peace, hope, patience, gentleness and kindness in our lives when we need it; we should listen to this inner voice and strength as it is there for us.

Pentecost marks the day and time when the church began and we, making up ‘the church’ as a body of believers, can rightly wish the church a very happy birthday; the Bible reports three thousand people believed Jesus’ followers and converted after His apostles had gone out and spoken about His life and teachings; are we counted in that number…?

Happy Birthday to the Church - celebrating Pentecost!
