Sunday Times Prep School of the Year 2013-14

Charity Choice

Last week we were ‘all ears’ as we gathered together as a whole school community to consider and make our charity choice for the coming year.

The House Captains presented four very different charity choices to us and informed us of all the good works that would benefit from our vote. We heard about the Princess Alice Hospice, the Salvation Army, British Heart Foundation and Water Aid; four incredibly worthwhile charities that do amazing work in their own field. Each girl exercised their democratic right to vote back in class and the ballot papers were handed to Mrs Fernandes to count and verify…and Mrs Hair announced in Assembly today the result. Drum roll please – the charity which, as a school we pledge our fundraising to, from February 2018 – 19, is the Princess Alice Hospice. Staff and pupils alike seemed delighted at this result as it is a local charity, based in Esher, who have been there for some of us, in our darkest times, offering support, guidance, medical care and compassion for families and loved ones. Our ‘Enterprise Week’ and Year 6 ‘Bin Bag Fashion Show’ are two up-coming events which will kick off our fundraising activities this year.

A big ‘Thank You’ to our House Captains and Deputies, who researched and presented the charity choices to the school, and to every girl who got involved and voted to make this happen.
