Superstars Indeed!

We have had the most fabulous two nights in the 'Holy Cross Theatre' experiencing the singing, dancing, acting and music that made up the Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6, Christmas plays.

The first production, from our lower Junior girls, told the story of how the carol, 'Silent Night' was born. The setting was a sleepy Austrian village carpeted in snow, where the mischievous mice had chewed through the organ pipes, but as a musical 'something' was still needed in church to celebrate Christmas, the beautiful words and music were written to the famous, peaceful, quiet carol. It was a truly reflective production that rang out with the true spirit of Christmas.

Our second performance from the older Juniors, stepped up a beat and revealed the stellar cast of stars, including one 'Superstar' who shone for the wise men, their apprentices, the shepherds and everyone hurrying to Bethlehem. We sympathised with the weary travellers that it was not a barn conversion on offer, instead, a lowly stable and learnt how the shepherds did not even own a pair of socks, let alone be bothered to wash them! It was refreshing to see this injection of humour and contemporary reference in the traditional story, without detracting from its timeless appeal and meaning. As the girls sang out in their finale and encore, "Everybody here can be a superstar..." and indeed, no truer sentiment could be spoken.

Mrs Peterons and Mrs Thompson were delighted with both nights' performances which revealed the girls' hard work learning lines and songs, and effort in rehearsing. Costumes, props and scenery all added to the productions and many hands went into making it happen - huge thanks to all. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas from the Music and Drama Departments; do try to see a show over the holidays!
