Holy Communion

Nineteen of our Year 3 girls celebrated their First Holy Communion on the 10th of June.
The Summer Event
On Saturday 26th June the girls, staff and parents came to see the children perform.
Houses of Parliament
Year 6 girls were very privileged to have a special tour of the Houses of Parliament last week.
Year 1 Wisley Trip
On Thursday 6th May the girls visited Wisley as part of their science, D.T. and art studies.
M;tech Spring Term Winners
The winners of last term's "Project Dance" are Florence Guy and Neha Vohra with their music called "The Flames".
Our Natural Sculptures
Last week all the year 1 girls went down to the playground to make their natural sculptures.
African Drumming and Dancing
On Tuesday 20th April, the juniors took part in an African Dance and Drumming Day. They learnt different African dances and different drumming rhythms.
Year 1 Art Work
The girls in Year 1 have been working really hard to draw their self-portrait. They have been learning about the shape of the face and the position and shape of the features on it.
A Lenten Service
In preparation for Easter, the junior girls led a Stations of the Cross service. See galleries for more information and photographs.
Bunting Competition Winners
This week in assembly the girls were presented with their prizes for the library bunting competition.
The Gingerbread Man Competition
CONGRATULATIONS to all the girls who were winners and runners up in the Gingerbread Man competition. There were lots of fabulous entries and it was very difficult to choose the final few. Do look on the galleries to see some of the super pictures and written pieces!
Y4P Mothering Sunday Service
On Thursday, 11th March, Y4P led a moving service about Mothering Sunday.
Y5P Mass
On Thursday Y5P and Mrs Davis prepared our Mass, which Father Michael celebrated. We remembered the feast of Candlemas. We know that God is the Light of the world.
Poster Competition
This term the girls have been very excited at the prospect of their Neon Disco! They were asked to design a poster for the special day.
Silly Socks Day
Yesterday we all looked super in our brightly coloured, beautifully patterned.....legs!
Author Visit

Nick Handel, author and BBC producer gave a fun, yet educational lecture to the year 5 and 6 classes this week.
Petit déjeuner


Yesterday morning our school hall was transformed into a fabulous French café and pupils in year 6 and their 'little girls' in reception were able to enjoy 'a taste of France'. Bowls of 'chocolat chaud', as well as 'croissants, pains au chocolat, brioche et baguette' all went down a treat with the girls.
Haiti Fundraising Event
Everyone has been saddened about the recent earthquake in Haiti. This term the girls have been thinking of ways to fundraise and help.
Year 6 Art Lesson
The Year 6 art lesson was certainly a lively and active place to learn this week….we have started to study the topic of ‘Movement’ and have been thinking ways to show this in a drawing which, by it’s very nature, is still. Only a DVD or video recording can really capture movement but we had a go!

Due to the dangerous conditions in George Road and Warren Road, school will close promptly at 3:45pm today. Note there will be NO HOMEWORK CLUB.
However to ease congestion, children may be collected early: Reception at 1:00pm; year 1 at 1:15pm; year 2 at 1:30pm; year 3 at 1:45pm - all from the infant entrance.
Years 4, 5 and 6 may be collected from the main doors from 2:00pm. Siblings may be collected with the eldest child. Please allow plenty of time to access the school and be patient whilst waiting for your child to be called from class.
Christmas Charity
This term the girls have been writing seasonal messages on our two giant angels! Thanks to the parents, children and staff we have managed to raise a fantastic amount for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

On Thursday 26th November, Y6 and Y6P and their reception class buddies spent the day at Wisley.
Wonderful Worms!

The Eco-Gardening Club were very pleased this week to welcome 350 new wiggly worms to Holy Cross.
Hampton Court Palace
Y4 and Y4P visited Hampton Court Palace and had a fantastic day. They enjoyed travelling back in time and imagining life in Tudor England!
Picture Paradise
Y6 and Y6P enjoyed their trip to The Courtauld Institute of Art. They have written newspaper reports describing their day out.
Infant Art Club
This term in infant art club, the children have been closely observing and drawing fruit and vegetables!
Super Travel Plan!
Transport for London invited the school to attend the Sustainable Travel Accreditation Award ceremony at the Oval Cricket ground last Friday.
Cross Country Victory
On Friday 9th October the year 3, 4, 5, and 6 cross country teams competed against The Hall and The Study. We were the overall winners with some wonderful results at each year level.
Day of Language
On Friday 25th September Holy Cross pupils celebrated the European Day of Language 2009 with an international day of their own.

WOW Walk Once A Week!

Debra the Zebra bounced into assembly on Monday to encourage everyone to get walking, cutting down on pollution and encouraging a healthy start to the day!
What's For Lunch?

The new school kitchen is up and running, producing appetising aromas and mouth watering dishes. The week kicked off with 'It's a Roastie!' .
The Builders Have Gone!

On Monday 7th September, after a very productive year of building work, Mrs Hayes was handed the keys to the school's new Sports and Performing Arts Centre and Music Suite by the contractors Morgan Ashurst. It provides the school with state-of-the-art facilities, fit for our 21st century girls.
Making Musical Instruments
Year 5 girls used their creative talents and scientific knowledge to design and make musical instruments in the design and technology lesson.
Christmas 2008

Christmas was celebrated by telling the Christmas story in many different ways by all the Infant and Junior classes this year.
Year 3 Visit the Science Museum
The Year 3 classes had a wonderful time when they visited the Science Museum. The visit began in the Space Gallery where the girls found out about life in space. The highlight of the day was the launchpad area.
Chiltern Open Air Museum.

In the autumn term Year 1 visited the Chiltern Open Air Museum.
The museum was a very special place. We were able to see lots of different types of houses from long ago. We were able to ‘step back in time’ and could imagine how things would have been in the olden days.
Computers 4 Africa
In October 2008 the school donated 25 old, working computers to the charity 'Computers 4 Africa'. The computers will be shipped to Tanzania, where they will be overhauled by trainee IT technicians at a college before being sent on to local primary and secondary schools for use in the classroom.
Easter Fundraising in Reception

Reception and RP took part in a sponsored bounce to raise money for ‘Momentum’ the school’s chosen charity this Lent.
The Poppy Factory
In November Year 2 went to the Poppy Factory at Richmond to find out more about why we wear poppies at this time of year.
The Design Museum
On Friday, 19th September Year 4 visited The Design Museum. We looked at the various exhibitions and participated in a chair design workshop. We observed a range of chairs, and investigated how useful and attractive they were. The girls then designed and made a prototype of a chair. It was a really exciting and fascinating place to visit.
Art Club Antics!! Spring Term
During the spring term in art club we looked at various images of faces and developed this work into our own portraits. Finally we let our imaginations run riot to create a soft toy / plushy!
Florence Nightingale Visit

On Friday 13th March 2009 Y2 and Y2P went to the National Army Museum to learn more about the life of Florence Nightingale.
Challenging Adventures at PGL
During the Easter holidays a mixed group of Year 5 and 6 girls had a fabulous time meeting new personal challenges on the PGL activity week at Osmington Bay in Dorset. An exhilarating ride on the zip wire along the clifftop as the sunset, was one of many highlights.
Year 6 Issued With Mini Note Books
The Year 6 have recently been given their own mini laptops to use in the classroom. These have kindly been donated by the Friends of Holy Cross and are proving extremely popular with teachers and girls.
